ths and it has been exactly what I wanted in a convenient receptacle for small waste generated at the desk. So far, I haven't had any issues with the opening mechanism.I'm knocking off 1 star as my one problem is that the parts of the trashcan aren't tightly held together, so if you don't support it when picking it up, the base of the trashcan connected to the inner canister can fall out and spill your trash everywhere. It doesn't open when you push it always. You have to pry it open after releasing the catch.
